ADHESIVES BY ARDEX ENDURA

FLEX WHITE Two component, white, flexible tile/stone adhesive for wood & metal surface.

Two-part, white adhesive comprising of rubber-based powder and water based polymer liquid. Flexible adhesive for use in areas where tiling is likely to be subjected to some limited background movement or vibration, especially wood, plywood & metal surface.

Suitable for fixing at 2 – 10mm bed thickness wall and floor tiles, glass mosaics, vitrified tiles and natural/engineered stones in interior and exterior installations, including swimming pools. Also suitable for use on floors subjected to light traffic conditions, but bed thickness must not to exceed 10mm. No traffic should be allowed on the floor for at least 24 hours after completion of tiling. With dense or impervious surfaces, drying-out and setting time of the adhesive may be delayed.

Unit

12.5KG

Application

Substrate Preparation:

Before starting any work ensure that the base is:

  • Sufficiently flat to permit the specified flatness of finished tiling, bearing in
mind the permissible thickness of the adhesive.
  • Suitable for tiling in the service conditions to which it will be exposed.
  • Surfaces to be tiled must be dry, clean and free from loose material and
    contamination
SURFACE CONSIDERATIONS:
Gypsum Plasterboard Backgrounds:

Ensure that boards are dry, securely fixed and rigid with no protruding fixings and the face intended to receive the decorative finish is exposed.

Plywood / Chipboard / Fibre-reinforced Cement Sheets:

Sheets / boards must be dry, securely fixed and rigid. Moisture resistant or exterior grade boards should be used. Do not seal or prime surfaces to be tiled.

Fibre Mesh Reinforced Cement Faced Tile Backer Boards:

Ensure that boards are dry, securely fixed and rigid with no protruding fixings and the face intended to receive the decorative finish is exposed. Ensure that the boards are dry. Do not seal or prime surfaces to be tiled.

Glazed Tiles :

Ensure those existing tiles / bricks are firmly adhered to their bed and the bed is sufficiently strong to support the weight of new tiling. Remove loose or hollow surrounding areas and make good with 1: 3 cement: sand mortar applied over a slurry bonding coat (2 parts cement: 1-part ADMIX AD1) or with a suitable non – shrinking filler.

Painted Walls:

Ensure that the paint is in a sound condition. Check by applying strips of cello tape (or equivalent) to clean dry painted surface. Leave for 10 minutes before tearing them off. If paint is removed with the tape then the paint is unsound. Remove all areas of unsound paint by mechanical means. Do not use paint strippers.

Steel Background:

Ensure that the surfaces are firm, rigid and free from deflection, free from loose rust, scale and grease. Wherever necessary, treat with a suitable rust inhibiting primer.

MIXING:

Mix together liquid with powder in the proportions supplied i.e. 4.50 kg of liquid 8.00 kg of powder

APPLICATION
  1. Spread not more than the area which can be tiled within the open time of the adhesive.
  2. The mixed adhesive is applied to the prepared surface with a trowel and then combed through with a suitably sized square-toothed notched trowel. Back buttering of adhesive on tile is recommended.
  3. The tiles should be fixed within the open time of the adhesive and pressed into place with a twisting and sliding action ensuring solid bed fixing is achieved. The open time is dependent on site conditions and will be extended in lower temperatures and shortened at higher temperatures.
  4. Check periodically that good contact is maintained with the back of each tile.
  5. Touch the adhesive ribs periodically and if a skin has formed, remove the adhesive and apply a new layer.
  6. Use spacers to leave adequate joints between individual wall and floor tiles unless self-spacing tiles are used.
  7. Clean off surplus adhesive from the tile face and between joints

Substrate

  • Gypsum Plasterboard.
  • Plywood / Chipboard / Fibre-reinforced Cement Sheets.
  • Fibre Mesh Reinforced Cement Faced Tile Backer Boards.
  • Metal surface
  • Tile on tile.
  • Concrete.

Coverage

FLEX 12.5KG will cover approximate 20 to 25 sqft with a 1/4” x 1/4” (6mm x 6mm) square notch trowel for bed of 3 mm. Coverage will vary depending on trowel notch size, type and size of tile and substrate smoothness and evenness.

Varies in accordance with the size and type of the tile and stone installed.
